Study: Surgeries to the back of the eye can also affect the tear film

It was nice to see a paper from the European Journal of Ophthalmology highlight the fact that ocular surface side effects should be considered for ALL surgeries.

In conclusion, any surgical trauma directed to the posterior segment of the eye may cause the loss of the ocular surface homeostasis. Ophthalmologists should not only recognise and treat, but possibly prevent, all patients' symptoms that could manifest in the postoperative time.
